Sonia Bazantay was born in Rennes in 1971, graduated from ESSA Duperré Paris and Parsons’ School NYC., she received a double training in both Fine Arts and Applied Arts. A higher Diploma of Applied Arts “DSAA fashion and environment » with the congratulations of the jury, strengthened her own transversal approach.
From that moment she navigated between her own practices and the creation of soecific spaces for Fashion. Accumulating personal researches to the experience of Desing and Forecast Agencies, she often realised scenographies and “out of standard” spaces.
From the end of the 90s to 2008, she shared a life between Paris and Milan, designing spaces but also furniture. Working with Alessandro Mendini, le Public Système, Mattel, Trudi, Chicco. In the 2000s, she carried on creating specific environments for Nelly Rodi, Petit Bateau, Caffarel, Diesel and other brands. Color and pattern analysis were the first grid in which she developed her investigations. Pattern, as a “shape-generator”, became vector of emotion.
Today, her action has focused on pursuing her personal researches for installations. The study of representation systems, of new graphic tools, and the restitution of inner phenomena through sculpture and shared practices are the backbone of a constant research. She lives and works in Montpellier.

Sonia Bazantay est née à Rennes en 1971, Diplomée de L’ESSA Duperré Paris et de la Parsons’ School NYC., elle a bénéficié d’un double cursus arts et arts appliqués. Un Diplôme supérieur d’arts appliqués DSAA «mode et environnement» avec les félicitations du jury, l’a confortée dans une approche transversale des arts.
Son parcours navigue alors entre la création d’espaces dans le contexte de la mode, et la pratique des arts fondamentaux. Elle cumule ainsi très vite une recherche personnelle à l’expérience des bureaux de style, et la réalisation de scénographies hors normes pour l’évènementiel.
A la fin des années 90, alors qu’elle se partage entre Paris et Milan, le design s’ajoute à la réalisation des espaces. Elle concevra des installations et du mobilier au sein de l’atelier d’Alessandro Mendini, du jouet pour Mattel, Trudi et Ferrero. Avec les années 2000 elle poursuivit la réalisation d’environnements spécifiques entre autres pour Nelly Rodi, Caffarel, Diesel, et du conseil pour différentes marques. La couleur et l’analyse du motif ont constitué la première méthode par laquelle elle développait ses investigations. Le décor générateur de formes devint vecteur d’émotion.
Aujourd’hui, son action s’est concentrée sur la poursuite de ses explorations personnelles pour l’installation. Ainsi, la conceptions d’outils graphiques, la restitution des phénomènes intérieurs à travers l’élaboration de techniques pour la sculpture et des pratiques partagées, constituent la colonne vertébrale d’une recherche constante où arts et arts appliqués se confondent. Elle vit et travaille à Montpellier.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT:
I was trained in the practice of both fundamental arts and applied arts. Therefore, my research navigates between graphic research, sculpture and wat Ilearned from design in a transversal approach. I explore this change of era, with the use of both traditional craftsmanship and new technologies. I see my practices as belonging to a collective experiment beyond disciplines & borders. I wish to invest the common space through devices that allow interaction and encounters. I rely on the successful meeting of different cultures, ages, and practices. I believe that no innovation can emerge without the support of memory.
As part of my focusing around simple and universal acts, I create specific and local responses to sites and to each distinct audience that will experience the work. My scope is to create community and build identity. These principles are embodied in in-situ actions and installations. Therefore I develop tools and techniques whose purpose is to be shared.

Mon exploration navigue entre la recherche graphique, la sculpture et ce que j’ai acquis par la pratiques des arts appliqués dans une approche transversale. J’emprunte autant à l’artisanat qu’aux nouvelles technologies. Je vois mes travaux comme appartenant à une expérience collective au-delà des disciplines et des frontières. Je souhaite investir l’espace commun à travers des dispositifs qui permettent l’interaction. Je m’appuie sur la rencontre fructueuse de différentes cultures, âges et pratiques. Je crois qu’aucune innovation ne peut émerger sans le soutien de la transmission.
Dans le cadre de mes recherches autours d’actes simples et universels. Je souhaite créer des réponses spécifiques aux sites et à chaque audience distincte qui expérimentera mon travail. J’œuvre pour faire communauté en décloisonnant les identités. Ces principes se concrétisent dans des actions et installations in-situ. Lors de leur réalisation j’élabore des outils et techniques dont le but est d’être partagés.
